We, ata place called ENGINE, meet international guests every day, and during those encounters, we have been asked many times, “Are there any onsen that allow tattoos?” It is true that many hot springs and public baths in Japan do not allow tattoos.
However, the way tattoos are perceived and understood is completely different between Japanese people and people from overseas.
While asking for the understanding of onsen and public bath operators in Japan regarding this difference, we sincerely wanted to support experiences where foreign visitors to Japan can enjoy onsen without worrying about their tattoos, and so we established the【 Tattoo-Friendly Onsen Association】
